In private practice for over 25 years, I have provided services to children, adults, families, and couples struggling to cope with inner turmoil and the challenges of everyday life.
After graduating from Columbia University School of Social Work in 1981, I began my career in mental health clinics and hospitals with children and families from diverse backgrounds who presented with a wide range of problems. I then pursued more extensive training at a psychoanalytic institute (IPTAR) in order to advance my knowledge and skills. It is this experience, training, and all subsequent clinical work that informs my current practice. I believe it is only by truly listening to the "bullied" child, the nervous young man, the recently divorced woman, or the parents of an anorexic teen that a therapist can understand and provide the support and treatment that truly helps.
Therapeutic services to assist individuals through separation and the emotional upheaval of divorce. Assist ith child custody conflicts through and evaluation of individual family dynamics to create and arrangement for custody/visitation that is in the best interests of the child.
Extensive experience with internationally and domestically adopted children. Provide pre- and post-adoption counseling and psychotherapy for adopted children and their parents.
Whether you are planting a garden or painting one, creative activity can be therapeutic in its own right, but it can also reveal aspects of your inner world and provide an opportunity for change.
In play therapy with children, I utilize the dramas of the dollhouse, watercolor or painting, and original storytelling techniques to enter the world of the child. In adult therapy I try to create a space where you can feel free to "play" with your thoughts and feelings. Then together, we work with this material to understand the source of conflicts and reveal your true, authentic self.
